Darcy Stillman, OTR/L, LMT (Occupational Therapist, Registered and Licensed, Licensed Massage Therapist)

I earned my bachelors degree in kinesiology and education in 1995 and spent the next 10 years teaching high school physical education and health. In 2014 I completed the massage therapy program at Spa Tech institute in Westbrook, Maine, with a focus on deep tissue therapy.  In 2016 I earned my masters of Occupational Therapy from the University of Southern Maine.  Since then I have worked to combine my skill sets as they are incredibly complementary.  I have experienced first hand the incredible results possible when approaching clients with dual disciplines.  

My approach to client care is to meet each person where they are on their healing journey.  My massage style is slow, deep, focused work to increase injury recovery as well as to assist in peak performance so individuals can successfully return to the activities that give them meaning and purpose in life.  Client education, when appropriate, is an extremely important component to my work as most functional impairments are caused or exacerbated by injury, compensatory body mechanics, or overuse.   

Over the years, like most people, I have had my share of injuries, ailments and physical setbacks.  Some required therapy, some required small habit changes, and some required intentional shifts in my lifestyle.  I believe that when healing and change are broken down into small, doable steps, the impossible can appear more possible.  

A little more about me...

I grew up on Mount Desert Island in Downeast Maine.  I left teaching to join the Peace Corps where I served for 2 years in South Africa.  I spent another 2 years teaching English in Taiwan before I returned stateside to attend graduate school.  I moved to the big city of Portland, Maine where I met my amazing wife.  We have a home in Portland with our two dogs and enjoy spending time with friends in our beautiful back yard surrounded by our many gardens.
